Lorraine Birnita

Hello and Welcome!

I’m Lorraine Birnita and I’m thrilled you’re here. Thanks very much for the visit, I appreciate it. I’m a British-Zimbabwean writer, and currently, I’m mainly focused on writing Young Adult Fiction across these three genres (although every now and again I’ll dip into other genres as well).

YA Fantasy Romance
YA Contemporary Romance
YA Contemporary Fantasy Romance

The fantasy elements of my stories are greatly inspired by my Zimbabwean roots. And my tales feature spirited, courageous, and strong Young Adult female leads, lush settings, and gorgeous tales of legends weaved with myths and magic linked with spirits.

If you want to learn more about me or my books, please check out the rest of the website or send me a message and I’ll get back to you!

Best Wishes,

Lorraine

I grew up in the beautiful savanna of Zimbabwe among a rich storytelling tradition. During the school holidays, I would sit around the fire whilst the elders told stories of fantastical creatures, mythical beings, and faraway worlds. The storytelling invoked the most powerful emotions that I try to emulate in my writing. It ranged from normal speech to susurrus whispers, to singing and chanting.

These folktales had been passed down from generation to generation, and as is the case with most oral lore, the tales were so exaggerated they oozed finesse at each retelling. I would listen avidly and imagine wandering through these amazing worlds, unveiling all the mythical mysteries, and discovering gleaming gems in the mud. They were mere appetizers for my imagination. True gratification came from putting my own spin on the tales.

I’m an avid reader and I love writing across all genres of Young Adult fiction. I’m also a fan of genre-mashing and I absolutely adore a good sprinkle of romance in all my tales.

After immigrating to the UK in the year 2000, I settled in the charming city of Norwich, which is England’s first UNESCO City of Literature. It’s in this city that I live with my husband and two children. When I’m not writing, I’m listening to music, dancing or spending time with my family and friends.
